Do you remember Agatha Christie and her story How Does Your Garden Grow?
In Russia, there are two different words.
Garden (сад) - flowers. Vegetable garden (огород) - vegetables.
This year, as well as last year, many of our flowers decided to be pink.
Really. I don’t know how this happened.
The first year, our gladiolas were red, yellow and pink. Now only pink! What happened to the reds? Mystery!
Zinnias really struggle to grow in our gardens. Some insects are very fond of young shoots of zinnias. Daniel sows them 2-3-4 times until finally they start to grow. But when they begin to bloom, the beauty is indescribable!
Petunias make me happy this year. I went to choose/buy them myself. I planted them in hanging pots. But Daniel is the one who waters them.
Coneflowers are entirely the husband's concern. We have them in two different colors. They look gorgeous!
We don't have much choice from vegetables.
Cucumbers grow in a separated garden surrounded by a wired fence. My son laughs, why do we plant our plants in cages? In Russian, it sounds like they're in prison.
There are reasons for everything. One of them is a dog who does not understand the concept of vegetables and flower gardens. Another one are stray cats who prefer the dug-up earth for their toilet.
There is also physical support of plants. Cucumbers are perfectly woven on the grids. And many flowers rely on fences. Where there are no fences, Daniel puts metal poles.

Tomatoes grow as usual. Samoseika - self-seeded. I don't grow seedlings.
However, this year we were given three plants, different varieties. It took them a very long time to acclimatize. So far they are smaller than my self-seeded tomato plants.
I do not know which category to include sunflowers. This year we are growing ordinary and giant sunflowers. Really huge!
Not huge sunflowers (from seeds of last year's plants) are already blooming.

Not giant Sunflowers |
I also grow some herbs. Not everything grows. And not everything that grows I eat. Unfortunately, I'm not used to it.
